For Afghanistan’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), trade exhibitions offer something that is often difficult to access: direct conversations with buyers, suppliers and businesses beyond their existing networks.
WatanPlus participated in the fifth Imam Abu Hanifa National and International Exhibition, which brought together Afghan businesses and more than 100 companies from Uzbekistan, Turkey and Iran. This international participation created an important opportunity for local enterprises to explore regional markets, exchange knowledge and understand new commercial possibilities.
Why exhibitions matter for MSMEs
A good product does not automatically find its market. Smaller businesses often face limited visibility, incomplete market information and difficulty reaching the right commercial partners.
Exhibitions can help bridge these gaps. They give entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their products, receive buyer feedback, compare quality and packaging, and learn what different markets expect. They also introduce businesses to machinery, production methods and suppliers that may help improve productivity and reduce waste.
For Afghan agricultural and food businesses, these exchanges are particularly valuable. Discussions about processing, packaging, product consistency and buyer requirements can reveal practical steps towards stronger domestic sales and export readiness.
Turning participation into lasting value
The real measure of an exhibition is not simply the number of visitors or business cards exchanged. Its value emerges through follow-up.
For MSMEs, that means maintaining contact with potential partners, providing clear product information, responding to enquiries and demonstrating reliable quality and delivery. Exhibition organizers and business-support institutions can strengthen this process by helping smaller enterprises prepare before an event and pursue relevant opportunities afterwards.
WatanPlus’s commitment
Our participation reflects WatanPlus’s purpose: Trading for Development. We see stronger commercial connections, appropriate machinery and better market access as practical building blocks for productive enterprises—including women-led and home-based businesses.
WatanPlus also received a certificate of appreciation from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) in recognition of its participation. We thank ACCI and the exhibition organizers for creating a platform for business engagement and regional cooperation.
For us, the exhibition is a starting point—not an endpoint. The priority is to turn visibility and dialogue into practical opportunities for Afghan enterprises.
